Trying to Return

Our son is once again trying to return.

I can see it in his willingness to make eye contact. In his gentler attitude. In his not wanting to argue every thing you say. Just 50% of what you say. Like the average teen.

In his asking for a hug, out of the blue. As if he missed them, even as he refused that comfort before.

In his being funny and silly, not in a manic way like he does when he is spiraling, but with the excellent comedic timing he has when he is relaxed and unafraid.

And in his simple reaction to making a mistake. Like this morning. When he opened up and told me about another boy lying in 'group' and his calling him on it. How Ms. H mentioned that he recognizes the lie because he has told so many himself. I praised him for tuning in to someone else, and he replied, "I'm physic that way."

"Physic?" I asked.

"Yeah, physic. You know, the people who can read others minds."

"Oh, you mean psychic," I smiled.

"Yeah. Physic. Psychic. Whatever. I'm just a kid, you know."

Yeah, my sweet boy, some days you ARE just a kid. A sweet boy, with no agenda. A good kid who simply wants to be family. One who doesn't melt down over a simple correction.

Thank You, God, for days like this. For days when I don't have to be physic psychic.
